Thailand lowers 2023 rice export target to 7.5 mln tonnes

BANGKOK, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Thailand cut its rice export target to 7.5 million tonnes this year from a previous target of 8 million tonnes due a stronger baht, the exporter's association said on Wednesday.

"The exchange rate is a crucial factor ... and has increased the price of Thai rice by $40 to $50," Chookiat Ophaswongse, honorary president of the Thai Rice Exporters Association told Reuters. (Reporting by Panarat Thepgumpanat, Writing by Chayut Setboonsarng; Editing by Kanupriya Kapoor)
