John Deere ramps up battery production with Kreisel Electric

John Deere has announced an investment in two additional Kreisel Electric production facilities to increase battery production capacity.

Deere acquired majority ownership in Kreisel in early 2022, which currently has a facility located in Austria. This expansion will bring an increase of over two Gigawatt hours to John Deere’s total battery production.

"This investment will put a strong focus on the industrialization and automation of the entire production process, as well as research and development capacities at Kreisel headquarters in Rainbach," says Jennifer Preston, global director for John Deere electric power.

The first leg of the investment will begin with a new facility located at the John Deere Saran factory in France, which is Deere’s primary engine manufacturing location in the European Union. The company will also be investing in battery assembly capacity in the United States.

Kreisel will be leveraging John Deere’s existing expertise at the Saran facility throughout the stages of production. The funds from the investment will primarily be used within the mobile, commercial, and industrial solutions, as well as the charging infrastructure division of Kreisel.

This is part of John Deere’s response to the global energy market calling for sustainable and efficient battery solutions.
