Tractor sales continue steady growth in January

Continuing the trend from last year, overall agricultural tractor sales in North America have continued to rise in January 2022.

Total farm tractors sales in the United States gained 1.5% in sales for January 2022 compared to this time last year, according to data reported by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). This boost in tractor sales was led by a boost in 2WD tractor sales, seeing a nearly 11% increase in sales from January 2021.

For mid-range tractors between 40 and 200 hp., sales were down almost 3%, and tractors with 200-hp. and larger saw a decline of .4% in sales. Sales for self-propelled combines in the United States fell over 41% with 350 units sold in January 2021 to only 205 units sold this year.

“The sales trend we’re seeing started in June of 2020 and has reliably remained above the five-year average since then,” said Curt Blades, senior vice president, industry sectors and product leadership at AEM. “The strength of ag markets and farmers seeing the value in the new technologies on offer is driving demand. At the same time, the lingering effects of the supply chain remain a concern.”
