Pizza supreme dip

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces bulk Italian sausage
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion (1 medium)
  • 1 garlic, minced
  • 1 15-ounce can pizza sauce
  • 1 cup thinly sliced, cooked turkey pepperoni or mini pepperoni, or chopped Canadian-style bacon
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped fresh portobello or cremini mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped green sweet pepper (1 small)
  • 1/4 cup sliced pitted ripe olives
  • 3/4 cup shredded four-cheese pizza cheese (3 ounces)
  • 1 recipe Pizza Chips, bagel chips, and/or toasted baguette-style French bread slices

Directions

  1. Preheat broiler. In a seasoned or generously greased 8- to 9-inch cast-iron or oven-going skillet cook sausage, onion, and garlic over medium-high heat until sausage is brown, using a wooden spoon to break up meat as it cooks. Drain off fat.
  2. Stir in pizza sauce, pepperoni, mushrooms, sweet pepper, and olives. Cook over medium heat until bubbly, stirring occasionally. Sprinkle with cheese.
  3. Broil 3 to 4 inches from the heat for 2 to 3 minutes or just until cheese starts to brown. Serve dip with Pizza Chips. Makes 16 servings, 1/4 cup each.
