Issues mount in Argentina where a hot and dry end to November will deplete any of the moisture received from spotty showers in the past few weeks.

While any prospect of rain is welcome at this point in South America, the rainfall that arrived in the second full week of November 2022 wasn’t nearly enough to put a dent in drought conditions.

There is little relief in sight for drought-stricken areas as La Niña conditions, which are in large part driving the drier weather pattern, are expected to continue through at least the end of 2022.

Soybean and corn planting are underway in South America where the weather has been cooperative for some but difficult for others. Argentina’s growing regions have faced unfavorable weather. 

For the states that have yet to finish corn harvest, the weather going into the first week of November will be favorable for fieldwork.

The state of drought across the Corn Belt grows more concerning heading into the cold season. As of October 18, drought is the most widespread since April 2013 across the central United States.
