John Deere updates the 5EN and 5ML series tractors
John Deere has expanded its line of specialty orchard and vineyard tractors with updates to the 5EN and 5ML series.
The 5EN Series
John Deere has revived its 5EN series of tractors, updated with the new 75 hp. 5075EN model. This is a narrow tractor that can be configured to a working width as minimal as 51 inches, and can be outfitted with a front hitch, and mid selective control valves for use with implements.
Two transmission options are available for the 5075EN: The 12x12 PowrReverser and he 24x12 PowrReverser with High-Lo. The PowrReverser transmission allows for hydraulically-shifted forward-to-reverse, while the High-Lo option allows operators to adjust speed with the button on the gear shift lever.
A creeper option available on both transmissions allows users to choose the right speed for the task at hand, whether it’s spraying, mowing, hauling, or other slow-speed application. A left-hand reverser is standard, freeing up the right hand for other tractor controls.

“It’s ideal for fruit handling and hauling, spraying, mowing, and any application that takes place within the narrow confines of an orchard or vineyard,” says Greg Christensen, marketing manager for John Deere. “[Customers] will be surprised at how much John Deere Precision Ag Technology is available to help them monitor, manage and maximize their farm or business.”
This new tractor is available in open operator station or cab configuration. The cab configuration has some of the standard amenities including AC/heat, cell phone and cup holders, 12-volt outlet, USB port, and service ports, with an optional air-ride seat.
The 5 ML series
The John Deere 5ML series has higher horsepower than the 5EN range, with the 100 hp. and 130 hp. models getting updates.
“The 5ML Series has been a proven tractor in fruit and nut orchards for years, but customers either had to use it as an open operator station tractor or find a cab solution on their own, costing them time and money,” says Christensen. “Now, customers can get a low-profile, feature-packed John Deere cab that shows up from the factory ready to work.”
Two front-axle options are available on cab versions of the 5ML series: 71 inch working widths, and down to 61 inches on the 5ML Narrow. Each of these versions has programmable LED lighting, with options for a front hitch and front PTO. Buyers also have the choice of the PowrQuad Plus or Powr8 transmissions.

Two new dealer-installed kits are also available. A Cat IV filtration system provides extra cab filtration and pressurization. The Limb Lifter kit gently moves low hanging branches out of the way to help reduce damage to the tractor and the tree.
The cab on the new 5ML tractors has a flat-floor, spacious headroom, and ergonomically-designed controls. An in-dash, three-screen LCD display allows operators to customize their view.
Integrated technology
Both tractor series are built with JDLink, used to remotely track machine data, which may be useful to farmers operating vineyards or orchards, or to manage fleets of tractors.
Both are also AutoTrac capable, with AutoTrac universal available on the 5EN, and Integrated AutoTrac available on the in-dash display on the 5ML tractor.
Availability
The 5EN and 5ML series tractors are available to order now, with limited availability in 2023. For more information, visit JohnDeere.com.
